Pusan National University Hosts 3rd GRAND-PNU Day for 4th Phase BK21

Sharing Graduate Student Research and Extracurricular Achievements
BK21 Excellent Paper Award and PNU-STAR Presented,
Exhibition and Presentations Held

Busan National University (President Choi Jae-won) Graduate School announced on the 24th that it held the ‘3rd GRAND-PNU Day, NU Graduate Student Research Achievement Exchange Meeting’ on the 23rd at the main auditorium on the 2nd floor of the Mechanical Engineering Building on campus as part of the ‘4th Phase BK21 Graduate School Innovation Support Project.’


The event was organized as a platform for exchange where more than 200 graduate students and others shared and disseminated outstanding cases of research and extracurricular activities created by Busan National University graduate students throughout 2024.


At the event, research outcomes from the PNU-Fellowship and Innovation Course (PNU Convergence Innovation Project) were also exhibited, emphasizing the importance and potential of interdisciplinary convergence research.


In the first part of the event, the ‘2024 BK21 Excellent Paper Award’ and the ‘2024 PNU-STAR Award’ were presented as Busan National University President’s Awards. The second part consisted of a research achievement exchange meeting featuring presentations by participants in the Graduate School Innovation Support Project program and a special lecture on convergence research by Professor Nam Ho-sung from Korea University.


The ‘2024 BK21 Excellent Paper Award’ was given to 30 papers selected from 134 papers published in domestic and international journals during 2024, recommended by their advisors. Notably, 83% of the submitted papers were internationally recognized excellent papers classified as SCIE level, demonstrating that the research capabilities of Busan National University’s graduate school are globally acknowledged. Additionally, eight foreign international students were among the authors, highlighting the further strengthening of global research competitiveness.


The ‘2024 PNU-STAR’ award was given to 19 outstanding graduate students selected based on their portfolios of various internal and external activities throughout the year. To ensure evaluation expertise, professors from both inside and outside the university in each field conducted the assessments.


Busan National University’s ‘4th Phase BK21 Graduate School Innovation Support Project’ operates 78 projects covering the entire graduate school spectrum, from scholarship support to undergraduate students aspiring to enter graduate school, graduate studies, and employment or entrepreneurship after graduation, to enhance graduate students’ research achievements.


This event is expected to promote qualitative growth in convergence research and establish a foundation for activating multidisciplinary research on campus.


Lee Jae-woo (Vice President of Education and Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies), Dean of the Graduate School at Busan National University, said, “We are sparing no effort to actively support all researchers and professors to strengthen their research capabilities and produce research outcomes at a global level, and we will continue to strive to achieve excellent results as a research-oriented university.”
