Consul General of Mongolia in Busan Visits Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center

Discussion on Strengthening Medical Cooperation for Mongolian Citizens

Cheokter Unerjaya, Consul of Mongolia in Busan, visited the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center (Director Lee Chang-hoon) on the 20th.

The purpose of this visit was to strengthen medical cooperation with Mongolia and expand the exchange of medical technology and infrastructure between the two countries.

Consul Cheokter showed great interest in the center's advanced medical facilities and specialized treatment systems, particularly highly appreciating the excellence of radiation therapy and cancer treatment technologies.

Consul Cheokter stated, “The number of cancer patients is increasing in Mongolia, and many patients receive treatment overseas. Most go to Seoul, but many do not come to Busan because they are unaware of its high medical standards. The advanced medical technology and experience of the Southeast Regional Radiation Medical Center will be a great help to Mongolia’s medical community,” emphasizing the need to expand cooperation.

This visit marked the first time a high-ranking Mongolian diplomatic official visited the medical center, adding special significance. The center has played a leading role in Asia in the field of radiation therapy by transferring advanced technology and know-how to medical staff through cooperation with several countries including Mongolia, Russia, and Kazakhstan.

The visit by the Mongolian consul is regarded as a continuation of these international cooperation efforts.

Director Lee Chang-hoon said, “Mongolia and Korea share many similarities in appearance, culture, and customs, so patients feel comfortable during treatment. The medical center offers optimal conditions such as Seoul-level medical technology, a pleasant natural environment facing the sea and mountains, affordable and convenient guesthouses within the center, and direct flights between Busan and Mongolia,” adding that it will be the best choice for Mongolian patients.

He continued, “We are currently promoting an expansion of 500 beds, and based on this, we plan to expand essential medical departments, open a cardiovascular and cerebrovascular center, provide customized medical services to local residents, and develop into a regional public hospital hub attracting foreign patients.”

Last year, the medical center signed memorandums of understanding with two institutions, including Mongolia’s 3rd National Hospital, for the exchange of the latest medical technologies and personnel training.

The agreements include joint seminar hosting, training programs inviting Mongolian medical staff, and joint research projects.

Director Lee said, “The visit of Consul Cheokter is significant not only as an exchange but also in deepening trust and friendship between the two countries and establishing a sustainable partnership to improve the health and medical standards of both peoples,” adding, “We will strengthen the global competitiveness of Korean healthcare through medical exchanges with Mongolia and various other countries.”
