On the 24th, the government held a meeting on external economic issues chaired by Acting President and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Choi Sang-mok, who is also the Minister of Strategy and Finance, to review the trends of the Trump administration's executive orders and discuss response measures.
The meeting was attended by Cho Tae-yeol, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Ahn Deok-geun, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Bang Ki-seon, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination; Sung Tae-yoon, Director of the Presidential Policy Office; and Shin Won-sik, Director of the National Security Office.
The attendees assessed that policies announced shortly after Trump's inauguration?such as U.S.-centered trade policies, expansion of energy development and production including traditional fossil fuels, and preferential tax policies for U.S. companies?would have direct and indirect impacts on our economy, and reviewed the background of these policies.
Acting President Choi stated, "Under the principle of prioritizing national interests, we will re-examine the response directions we have prepared so far, focusing on issues with significant ripple effects on our economy, and will respond sequentially through meetings on external economic issues." He also instructed related ministries to actively promote communication with businesses during this process.
