Certified by Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute
Outstanding in Reducing Harmful Substances and Adhesion
"Strengthening Eco-Friendly Shipbuilding Competitiveness"
KCC is preparing for the booming shipbuilding industry by leading the market for eco-friendly paints for ships.
On the 24th, KCC announced that the ship interior paint EH4600(HS), jointly developed with HD Hyundai, has received environmental label certification from the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute.
The environmental label certification is a nationally accredited system that selects eco-friendly products that reduce energy and resource consumption and minimize pollutant emissions throughout the entire process of production, distribution, use, and disposal.
In October 2023, KCC and HD Hyundai signed a 'Ship Coating Technology Development Agreement' and began developing paints and coating technologies for ship interiors. While placing the greatest emphasis on eco-friendliness, they also strictly managed quality standards.
The developed EH4600(HS) was recognized for its excellent environmental friendliness by reducing volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions during the coating process and decreasing harmful substances in the product itself through this environmental label certification. Additionally, it secured anti-corrosion performance to prevent rust in marine environments with high salt corrosion risk, strong discoloration resistance, and excellent adhesion applicable to all steel materials.
HD Hyundai selected this product as the 'standard paint' for application in non-submerged areas such as ship interior living quarters. KCC explained, "It has a function that can minimize surface treatment work, which is considered one of the most difficult tasks in the shipbuilding industry, so it is expected to be widely applied to ships built and repaired by HD Hyundai in the future."
Meanwhile, based on accumulated technological capabilities, KCC is performing well in the high-performance ship paint market. In addition to this paint, in 2023, KCC introduced 'Metacruise NS,' a silicone antifouling paint that incorporates bipolar technology into silicone paint for the first time in Korea, preventing marine biofouling.
A KCC official stated, "We will continue to strengthen eco-friendly shipbuilding competitiveness together with the shipbuilding industry and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality goals."
