Response to Large-Scale Wildfires in Spring

Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced that it has established the '2025 Comprehensive Wildfire Prevention Plan' and will enter the spring wildfire emergency duty system from the 24th to May 15th to protect citizens' lives and forest resources from increasingly frequent and large-scale wildfires caused by abnormal weather.

To this end, the city plans to set up wildfire prevention headquarters at the city hall and each district office, prepare wildfire-fighting helicopters, wildfire-fighting vehicles, and drones equipped with thermal imaging for detection, and establish a cooperative system with related organizations for rapid response.

In addition, special wildfire prevention measures will be implemented during the Lunar New Year holiday, Cheongmyeong and Hansik (traditional Korean holidays), and Children's Day to strengthen large-scale wildfire prevention activities and response readiness.

Furthermore, to reduce the occurrence of burning-related wildfires, the city will carry out collection and shredding projects for agricultural residues, conduct weekend mobile inspections and intensive inspections before and after sunset, hang banners prohibiting illegal burning, and promote wildfire prevention campaigns.

A Goyang Special City official stated, "Wildfires can be sufficiently prevented through the voluntary participation and interest of citizens," and added, "We ask that you refrain from lighting fires or burning garbage in areas adjacent to forests."
