Following Dobong-gu in Seoul, Dongdaemun-gu has also decided to grant special leave to its employees on the 31st, the day after the Lunar New Year holiday ends.
As a result, employees of these two autonomous districts will be able to take nine consecutive days off from January 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 through February 1 and 2.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) has decided to grant special leave to all employees on the 31st, the day after the Lunar New Year holiday ends.
The district announced that it was the first among Seoul’s autonomous districts to decide on granting special leave on January 31.
A district official explained the background, saying, “This is to encourage the hard work of employees who have contributed to various areas of district administration, including the promotion of key projects in the 8th elected term and the realization of creative administration.”
To minimize the gap in civil service on January 31, only 60% of all employees will take leave on that day, while the remaining 40% will use their leave during February and March.
This decision is expected to boost the morale of new employees who have recently been leaving public service due to low wages and heavy workloads, ensure sufficient rest time for employees, and help revitalize the local economy.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “I hope this special leave will be an opportunity for employees to relieve accumulated fatigue and recharge. We will continue to foster a healthy organizational culture through employee welfare projects and ensure that this leads to better administrative services for residents.”
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that it will grant special leave to all employees on the 31st, immediately after the Lunar New Year holiday ends.
Dongdaemun-gu achieved excellent results last year, winning the grand prize at the Korea Local Autonomy Management Competition and receiving awards in 52 categories from external organizations. This special leave was prepared to encourage employees’ dedication and hard work and to boost morale.
In particular, executives at the director level and above will take leave first to create an atmosphere where employees can use their leave without burden. However, to minimize the gap in civil service on January 31, some employees will be allowed to take leave in February.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Thanks to the efforts of our employees over the past year, Dongdaemun-gu has been recognized as an excellent institution in various fields and secured more than 10 billion won in external funding. I hope this special leave allows employees to spend more time with their families and recharge.”
