"Sean Curran, a Great Patriot Who Protected My Family"
Puzder Nominated as Ambassador to the European Union
U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated the Secret Service (SS) new director who stood by his side during last year's presidential campaign shooting incident.
On the 22nd (local time), President Trump said on the social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, "It is a great honor to appoint Sean Curran as the next director of the SS," adding, "He is a great patriot who has protected me and my family over the past few years and is suitable to lead the brave SS agents." He also introduced, "Curran began his SS career as a special agent at the Newark field office in 2001, has accumulated 23 years of experience in law enforcement, and served as deputy assistant director of the Presidential Protective Division during the president's first term."
President Trump particularly praised Curran’s nomination by referring to the shooting incident at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last July. He emphasized, "He showed fearless courage by risking his life to save me from the assassin's bullets in Butler, Pennsylvania." At that time, President Trump was slightly injured by a bullet fired by the assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks. Crooks was killed on the spot by gunfire from SS agents.
Meanwhile, on the same day, President Trump nominated Andrew Puzder, former CEO of CKE Restaurants, as ambassador to the European Union (EU). Puzder was nominated as Secretary of Labor during Trump’s first administration but withdrew amid controversies including employing an illegal housekeeper. He has taken a stance opposing minimum wage increases and expanded overtime pay, and faced strong opposition from the Democratic Party when nominated for Secretary of Labor in the past.
President Trump evaluated Puzder by saying, "As CEO of CKE Restaurants, he led the company out of financial difficulties," and added, "He will excellently represent national interests in the important region of Europe."
