Dangjin City, Chungnam Province, announced that the "National Route 32 Alternative Bypass Road Construction Project" was selected on the 23rd as a candidate for the comprehensive preliminary feasibility study for the 6th National Road and National Route Construction Plan (2026-2030) by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

National Route 32 passes through downtown Dangjin and serves as an alternative road during commuting hours and when there is congestion on the Seohaean Expressway, particularly in the section from Chaewon-dong to Gijisi-ri, Songak-eup, leading to chronic traffic congestion.

Additionally, with new intersections being constructed and traffic volume concentrated due to urban development projects around the national road, the need for a bypass road has been continuously raised.

In particular, in 2017, the city applied for the 5th National Road and National Route Construction Plan (2021-2025), but the project was not included due to insufficient feasibility, which was a disappointment.

To be included in the 6th National Road and National Route Construction Plan, the city prepared objective data and developed response strategies through a feasibility study, applied for the project in March 2023, and achieved the result of being selected as a candidate for the comprehensive preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, passing the first stage.

Dangjin Mayor Oh Seonghwan actively made proposals for the project's selection as a candidate for the comprehensive preliminary feasibility study by meeting with former and current Ministers of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and continuously visiting related agencies.

A Dangjin City official stated, "The Korea Development Institute (KDI) is scheduled to conduct the preliminary feasibility study, and we plan to focus all administrative resources to ensure that the project is included in the final announcement of the 6th National Road and National Route Construction Plan."

The official added, "As public interest and cooperation are important evaluation factors in terms of policy, we ask for the continued active interest and participation of our citizens."

Meanwhile, the 6th National Road and National Route Construction Plan is scheduled to be officially announced in December.
