On the 23rd, Gwangju City held a "Safety Measures Inspection Meeting for the Lunar New Year Holiday" in the city hall disaster situation room to ensure that citizens can enjoy a safe and comfortable holiday.

The meeting was presided over by Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Ko Gwangwan, and attended by officials from relevant departments, autonomous districts, and related agencies. They comprehensively discussed disaster management systems for heavy snow and cold waves, traffic flow measures, emergency medical services, and environmental and cemetery visit measures.

The city will operate a three-stage emergency duty system starting from the 27th in preparation for the expected heavy snowfall. The readiness of snow removal equipment and materials was thoroughly checked to focus snow removal operations on major roads with heavy traffic, such as Gwangsan IC and Seogwangju IC.

In addition, safety response teams for cemetery visitors were established at Yeongnak Park and Mangwol Cemetery Park to ensure visitor safety, and cooperation measures with Gwangju Urban Corporation were discussed to prevent accidents caused by heavy snow and icy roads.

Measures to minimize traffic congestion around Gwangju Intercity Bus Terminal and Gwangju Songjeong Station were also reviewed. Illegal parking enforcement teams will be operated, and personnel will be deployed to major congested areas to maintain traffic order and support smooth vehicle flow.

In particular, the city established a system to monitor real-time traffic conditions and respond quickly if necessary, in preparation for the increased number of people traveling during the Lunar New Year holiday.

To prevent any gaps in medical services, the status of emergency medical institutions and open hospitals and pharmacies, personnel deployment for emergencies, and response systems were checked. The operation information of medical institutions and pharmacies will be checked daily and promptly provided to citizens, and thorough preparations will be made to prevent infectious diseases so that the quarantine system is not neglected during the holiday period.

Vice Mayor Ko Gwangwan said, "As this Lunar New Year holiday is long and snow is forecast, thorough safety measures are necessary," and requested, "Since temperatures are expected to drop below freezing during the holiday, please pay special attention to protection measures for vulnerable groups such as the elderly living alone."
