Daegwallyeong has been selected for the Korea Tourism 100 for five consecutive times, establishing itself as a representative tourist destination in South Korea. In winter, Daegwallyeong is a nationally renowned winter sports mecca city visited by many domestic and international visitors to enjoy winter leisure activities such as skiing and snowboarding, thanks to its abundant snowfall and excellent snow quality. In summer, located in a 700m high clean plateau area, it is also recognized as a summer tourist destination free from tropical nights. Under this natural landscape and climate, Daegwallyeong is a four-season tourist destination attracting great popularity with its exotic atmosphere created by vast green ranches spreading widely.

Balwangsan Cheonnyeon Jumok Forest Trail, selected for the first time this year in the ‘Korea Tourism 100,’ is renowned as a ‘Star of Korean Tourism’ barrier-free tourist site, designed so that anyone can walk and enjoy safely by allowing comfortable access to the summit of Balwangsan (altitude 1,458m) using assistive devices such as strollers and wheelchairs.
One of Pyeongchang’s representative tourist spots, the Balwangsan Cable Car, showcases the unique charm of Pyeongchang’s four seasons beautifully no matter when you visit. Recently, in addition to the existing barrier-free deck trail (2.4km), a barrier-free sharing trail (410m) connecting to the summit’s Peace Peak has been newly established, enabling people of all ages to experience the open view from the top of Balwangsan.
Shim Jae-guk, Governor of Pyeongchang-gun, said, “We are pleased that Daegwallyeong, selected for the Korea Tourism 100 for five consecutive times, and Balwangsan Cheonnyeon Jumok Forest Trail, selected for the first time, can be more widely promoted to domestic and international tourists for their beauty,” adding, “We will continue to actively discover various tourism resources that can showcase the charm of Pyeongchang-gun.”
