Muan County Selected for Ministry of Agriculture and Food's 'Youth Rural Housing Project'

Creation of Tium Village in Yanghak-ri, Hyeongyeong-myeon

Muan County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Kim San) announced on the 23rd that it has been selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ public project, the ‘2025 Youth Rural Housing Complex Project District,’ securing a project budget of 10 billion KRW, including national funding.

On the 21st, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs selected six locations nationwide, including Muan County, Jecheon City in North Chungcheong Province, and Jangsu County in North Jeolla Province, as the first project districts for the Youth Rural Housing Complex. This project aims to reduce the housing and childcare burdens of young people returning or relocating to rural areas, improve living conditions, and support their stable settlement in rural communities. Each district will establish youth rental housing complexes, shared childcare facilities, and cultural and leisure facilities.

The county plans to invest a total of 10 billion KRW, including 5 billion KRW in national funding over three years, to create the ‘Tium Village for Shared Growth and Mutual Prosperity,’ providing housing for 28 young households.

The location will be in Yanghak-ri, Hyeongyeong-myeon. The county plans to link the village with the nearby Advanced Agricultural Complex, which is being developed as a key project, and utilize the youth rental smart greenhouse complex to make ‘Tium Village’ a new turning point in overcoming the crisis of rural depopulation.

Governor Kim San stated, “Not only rural areas but also cities are facing the crisis of regional extinction,” and added, “We will make Muan the best destination nationwide for young people to realize their hopes and dreams through returning to farming and rural life.”
