From Employment Training to Internship Programs
95,000 Jobs to Be Provided with 270 Billion KRW Investment

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is putting all its efforts into supporting senior economic activities in line with the entry into a super-aged society. This year, it plans to invest 270 billion KRW to provide about 95,000 jobs for the elderly and to support not only employment but also entrepreneurship.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 23rd, the Seoul 50 Plus Foundation will offer the 'Seoul Senior Job Challenge,' which includes customized employment training and internships for about 2,500 people annually, in conjunction with the opening of the 'Seoul Senior Job Support Center.'

The Seoul 50 Plus Foundation is a public institution established by the Seoul Metropolitan Government that handles various job support projects for middle-aged and older adults, including career planning, vocational education, employment, and entrepreneurship. The Seoul Senior Job Support Center focuses on supporting seniors' successful career transitions and reemployment. Through this year's planned 'Seoul Senior Job Challenge,' employment training linked to education, Seoul-style senior internships to gain practical experience in the field, and senior employment preparation communities will be conducted.

'Employment training' provides education and employment linkage simultaneously by cooperating with companies that have senior hiring demands to cultivate personnel who can immediately work on-site. It operates customized job training reflecting the characteristics and needs of the new senior generation, as well as on-site experience programs for seniors wishing to start their own businesses.

The 'Seoul-style Senior Internship' is a program where participants can gain practical experience at companies. Participants engage for up to three months, working 25 or 57 hours per month, and receive activity and training allowances. It is operated in two types: work-type and practice-type, and all participants are provided with accident insurance to ensure a safe environment for gaining job experience.

Additionally, the center operates a dedicated recruitment platform called the 'Senior Talent Bank' to strengthen connections with companies seeking to hire senior talent. When companies register job openings on the platform, professional counselors match suitable candidates according to the companies' needs and enhance hiring efficiency through various support systems such as internships, job training, matching days, and one-on-one rapid matching services.

At the Seoul city level, a total of 272.8 billion KRW will be spent this year to supply a record-high 95,201 jobs for the elderly. About 70% of the budget will be concentrated in the first half of the year for rapid supply, and recruitment by autonomous districts has been underway since last month. Previously, the city announced plans to create 410,000 direct and indirect jobs this year by investing a record-high budget of 2.7 trillion KRW to stabilize the labor market amid prolonged economic recession. Jobs for the elderly are the first measure in this plan.
