Gwanak-gu Achieves Success Including Attracting 195.8 Billion Won in External Funding

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has achieved unprecedented results since the launch of the 8th local government by attracting a total of 195.8 billion KRW in external funds and winning awards in 146 external institution evaluations.

To overcome low financial independence, the district established a dedicated team from the 7th local government to actively discover and attract external funds. It has systematically managed public contest projects by holding external contest and evaluation briefings and strengthening employee rewards, actively responding to the attraction of external funds.

Accordingly, from July 2022 to the end of last year, the district actively secured a total budget of 195.8 billion KRW from 554 public contest projects, special grants, and special subsidies from the central government, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and others, increasing the growth momentum of district administration.

Specifically, it secured special grants and special subsidies such as ▲2 billion KRW for the creation of a water playground in a children's park near residential areas ▲2.5 billion KRW for pothole maintenance and expansion of automatic snow removal installation ▲3 billion KRW for the construction of a complex office building in Sillim-dong and Miseong-dong ▲900 million KRW for the construction of an underground public parking lot in Moraenae Park, further enhancing residents' safety and convenience.

In particular, the district achieved great success by attracting a total of 241 cases and 80.7 billion KRW in external funds through public contest projects alone in the past year.

It secured ▲5.1 billion KRW for the 2025 Seoul Companion Job Project ▲2.6 billion KRW for the local brand commercial district development project ▲7 billion KRW for the autonomous district joint parking lot subsidy support project, enhancing the livelihood economy and regional development capabilities.

Meanwhile, the district has been recognized domestically and internationally for the excellence of its policies across all areas of district administration by winning awards in a total of 146 external institution evaluations during the 8th local government, including being selected as an OECD government innovation best practice.

Last year alone, it earned honors in 55 external evaluations, including ▲being selected as a ‘Winning City’ for the International Culture Award by the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) ▲Prime Minister’s Commendation in the Government Innovation Championship ▲Presidential Commendation for contributions on Dementia Overcoming Day ▲winning the National Local Government Job Award for three consecutive years ▲and being selected for the highest grade in the government joint evaluation for two consecutive years.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “We will continue to devote all our efforts to attracting external funds and actively promote various projects that improve residents’ quality of life and enhance regional competitiveness.”
