Minjoo Reports 'Jeon Hangil Election Fraud Video' to Google... Ruling Party Says "Silencing the Lecturer"

People Power Party: "Suppression of Freedom of Expression"
Jeon: "If We Vote Fairly..."

Public official and Korean history instructor Jeon Han-gil raised suspicions of election fraud and uploaded a video titled "The Confusion in the Republic of Korea Was Caused by the National Election Commission" on his YouTube channel, sparking controversy. On the 22nd, the Democratic Party of Korea announced that it would report the video to Google. In response, the People Power Party criticized this as an "act to suppress freedom of expression," while Jeon stated, "All I said was that it would be better to vote fairly and transparently."

On the same day, the Democratic Party's Public Communication Bureau said, "Regarding this incident, 186 reports have been received at the Democratic Police Station (the party's related reporting agency)," adding, "After internal discussions, we decided to resolve the issue through YouTube's reporting procedures instead of filing a police complaint." The Democratic Party explained that the report was made on the grounds that the video uploaded by Jeon contained false information.

They further stated, "We will formally report this video to Google and request fundamental solutions for similar cases," adding, "We ask citizens to take bold and swift reporting actions if such cases occur in the future. The Democratic Party will take the lead in punishing and eradicating these issues without exception."

In response to the Democratic Party's actions, the People Power Party's Media Special Committee issued a statement on the same day, criticizing, "How far will the Democratic Party's 'gag dictatorship' go?" and questioned, "After the KakaoTalk martial law and public opinion survey suppression, are they now trying to gag a Korean history instructor?" They continued, "They do not explain which part of the video is wrong," and pointed out, "There are tens of thousands of supportive comments on the video, but the Democratic Party wants to gag it based on about 100 reports from its supporters, which is an unprecedented black comedy."

Jeon Han-gil: "Even the Opposition Leader Raised Suspicions of Election Fraud"

Jeon also posted a message titled "After Seeing the News That the Democratic Police Station Reported Teacher Han-gil" on the 'Jeon Han-gil Korean History Cafe' in the afternoon. He said, "I criticized the National Election Commission, so I am puzzled why the Democratic Party is reporting me," adding, "There is nothing new; it is all based on previously reported materials, summarizing and organizing the current situation from an objective and balanced perspective as an instructor."

He continued, "Suspicions of election fraud have already been raised by Lee Jae-myung, the opposition leader, former ruling party leaders, opposition and ruling party lawmakers, the president, and the speaker of the National Assembly, as reported in the media," and argued, "Many citizens have accumulated various distrusts, so it would be better to disclose everything transparently and vote fairly and transparently in all future elections." He then questioned, "Isn't this desirable for all citizens beyond political divides?"

Earlier, on the 19th, Jeon uploaded a video titled "The Confusion in the Republic of Korea Was Caused by the National Election Commission" on his YouTube channel 'Kkotboda Jeon Han-gil' and mentioned suspicions of election fraud by the National Election Commission. In the video, Jeon stated, "(The National Election Commission) is a state agency operated with taxpayers' money and public officials, yet it resists audits by the Board of Audit and Inspection and even refuses investigations by the National Intelligence Service into North Korea's cyberterrorism and hacking suspicions," adding, "Since they insist on electronic vote counting instead of manual recounts, wouldn't the president have no choice but to conduct a full-scale forced investigation into the suspicious National Election Commission?" The video had recorded 2.52 million views as of 8 p.m. on the 22nd, becoming a major topic of discussion.
