Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) announced that on the 22nd, they delivered handmade dumplings to 350 underprivileged households in the district at the Dongdaemun-gu Volunteer Center in celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday.

On that day, about 60 volunteers gathered from 14 neighborhood volunteer camps and 5 volunteer groups including the Climate Environment Volunteer Group, and carefully made approximately 4,500 dumplings by hand.

Mayor Ilpyeong Lee of Dongdaemun-gu also visited the Volunteer Center to lend his support. The Volunteer Center added garaetteok (rice cakes) to the dumplings made by Mayor Lee and the volunteers, and delivered them to 350 households selected by the community centers.

To help small business owners struggling due to the recent economic downturn, all ingredients used in this volunteer activity were purchased from traditional markets and small businesses within the local area.

Mayor Ilpyeong Lee of Dongdaemun-gu said, “I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who participated in today’s Lunar New Year dumpling sharing volunteer activity,” and added, “I ask that you continue to actively participate in volunteering to help neighbors who are facing difficulties and hardships this year as well.”
