Court Hearing on Injunction Filed by People Power Party Asan Mayoral Pre-candidate Lee Gyosik Scheduled for 23rd

Kim Youngseok, South Chungcheong Provincial Party Chairman:
"Preliminary candidate Lee did not meet the required score...
Candidate selection will proceed as scheduled"

Court Hearing on Injunction Filed by People Power Party Asan Mayoral Pre-candidate Lee Gyosik Scheduled for 23rd Interrogation Schedule Notice.

Recently, Lee Kyosik, a preliminary candidate who was cut off from the People Power Party's Asan mayoral race, filed for an injunction to prohibit the selection of a candidate, and a hearing is expected to take place on the morning of the 23rd.

Lee, who is running in the by-election scheduled for April 2, filed a lawsuit against the People Power Party's South Chungcheong Provincial Party at the Cheonan branch of the Daejeon District Court on the 20th.

He claimed, "Provincial Party Chairman Kim Youngseok and the nomination committee members have deprived me of my rights as a candidate through excessive arbitrariness and abuse of authority," and added, "They broke the principle of holding the first primary through a public opinion poll and suddenly announced the cut-off decision to the media."

In response, the South Chungcheong Provincial Party stated that they would proceed with the candidate selection as planned.

On the 22nd, Kim Youngseok, the Provincial Party Chairman, said in a phone call, "Contrary to Lee's claims, the nomination committee has never announced the candidate selection method in its name," and countered, "We conducted document screening and interviews, but Lee did not meet the required score."

He added, "Candidate selection will proceed as scheduled."

It was also revealed that no disciplinary action is being considered against Lee.

A party official said, "We do not consider the act of filing a lawsuit itself as grounds for disciplinary action," and added, "If he feels he has been wronged, he can resolve it through legal means."

Meanwhile, the three candidates who passed the document screening and interviews are Lee Sanguk, former Vice Mayor of Seosan; Jeon Mankwon, former Vice Mayor of Cheonan; and Maeng Uiseok, Vice Chairman of Asan City Council.

The South Chungcheong Provincial Party plans to announce the candidate selection results late on the 24th through a mobile electronic vote among party members and a survey of the general public.
