Previously, Nam Hyun-hee married cyclist Gong Hyo-seok in 2011 and had a daughter. In August 2023, she announced her divorce from Gong Hyo-seok, and two months later, in October, she announced her remarriage to Jeon Cheong-jo. Jeon Cheong-jo claimed to be an illegitimate child of the Paradise Group chairman, but this was proven false. Nam Hyun-hee repeatedly maintained that she was deceived by Jeon Cheong-jo.
Subsequently, in March of last year, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul decided not to indict Nam Hyun-hee, who was under investigation for fraud and other charges under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, clearing her of suspicions of being an accomplice with Jeon Cheong-jo. Afterward, Nam Hyun-hee sued 30 malicious commenters, pleading, "Please do not make things difficult for me. I am living in pain right now. I am barely living with thoughts of wanting to die. Please let me breathe."
Meanwhile, the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 13 (Presiding Judges Baek Gang-jin, Kim Seon-hee, and Lee In-su) sentenced Jeon Cheong-jo to 13 years in prison last November on charges including fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes. Yonhap News
The Seoul High Court Criminal Division 13 (Presiding Judges Baek Gang-jin, Kim Seon-hee, Lee In-su) sentenced Jeon Cheong-jo, who was indicted last year on charges including fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, to 13 years in prison. They ordered the confiscation of the Bentley gifted to Nam Hyun-hee and instructed him to compensate the victims approximately 1.13 billion won. Additionally, the court ordered Jeon Cheong-jo to complete 40 hours of a child abuse prevention program. Jeon Cheong-jo was initially sentenced to 16 years in the first trial, but his sentence was reduced by 3 years in the appeal. The verdict was finalized as no appeal was filed.
Meanwhile, Nam Hyun-hee received a 7-year suspension of her coaching license from the Seoul Sports Council due to her failure to report sexual crimes against minor students at the fencing academy she operated, as well as for not restraining inappropriate remarks made by her business partner Jeon Cheong-jo.
