Marking the Lunar New Year holiday, Mayor Lee, who has been visiting various local livelihood sites, visited the multi-child family to hear the happy parenting stories of the couple with many children and their voices on practical difficulties, encouraging the family who are setting an example in the community with their harmonious appearance.

Mayor Lee said, “I am grateful for the dedication of the parents raising four children so well,” adding, “Pohang City will also spare no practical and systematic support to create a child-rearing friendly environment so that the children can grow into precious talents who brighten the future of Pohang.”

This visit by Mayor Lee gained additional significance as it coincided with the positive news that the number of births in Pohang City rebounded for the first time in nine years.

According to recently released data, the number of births in Pohang City last year was 2,243, an increase of 141 (6.71%) from 2,102 in 2023, marking a rebound after nine years. This is evaluated as a visible effect of Pohang City’s childbirth and parenting support policies.

Pohang City is currently easing the parenting burden on families with various support measures, including childbirth incentives, and is striving to ensure that citizens can raise children and live stable lives.

Mayor Lee said, “This year as well, we will continue to promote support for childbirth and parenting households, including multi-child families, to accelerate overcoming the low birthrate,” adding, “We plan to make more active efforts to create a child-rearing friendly environment where the whole family is happy because of the children.”
