Direct Delivery of Laundered Uniforms to Workplaces After Inspecting the Laundry Process

On the 22nd, Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, visited POSCO Humans ahead of the first anniversary of the launch of the workers' uniform joint laundry service, the first of its kind nationwide, jointly promoted by the public and private sectors.

Since February last year, Pohang City and POSCO Humans have signed a business agreement to provide a joint laundry service for workers' uniforms targeting employees of small businesses with fewer than 50 workers, and have been promoting the project.

The workers' uniform joint laundry service was initiated to reduce the laundry cost burden on workers in small-scale workplaces and to improve the practice of wearing contaminated uniforms for extended periods, thereby protecting workers' health rights.

On this day, Mayor Lee Kang-deok, after inspecting the joint laundry process at POSCO Humans, listened to voices from the field and expressed his gratitude while encouraging those involved for their efforts to enhance the welfare of local workers.

Following this, the mayor personally delivered the laundered uniforms to workplaces using the service within the industrial complex and took time to communicate with on-site workers.

The workers warmly welcomed the mayor’s surprise visit aboard the delivery vehicle and shared their economic difficulties due to the local economic downturn.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok deeply empathized with the workers' hardships and expressed his determination to take better care of Pohang’s livelihood economy and make Pohang a better place to live.

Mayor Lee stated, “Although the workers' uniform joint laundry service is still in its early stages with limited manpower and budget, we plan to stabilize the operating system and expand the service to be available throughout Pohang City,” adding, “We will strive to return the value of labor embedded in workers’ uniforms to labor welfare improvement and citizen happiness.”

The workers' uniform joint laundry service, the nation’s first public-private win-win cooperation project, involves Pohang City handling the collection and delivery of workers’ uniforms, while POSCO Humans is responsible for laundry and minor repairs, contributing to the welfare enhancement and quality of life improvement of workers.
