To Prevent Impersonation of Public Institutions
KakaoTalk Channels Introduce Dedicated Backgrounds
Applied to Police, Prosecutors' Office, National Health Insurance Service, Military Manpower Administration, and More
Kakao announced on the 22nd that it will provide a 'dedicated chatroom background for public institution channels' to public institution KakaoTalk channels to prevent impersonation damage of public institutions.
KakaoTalk Channel is a service that helps public institutions or businesses that want to use KakaoTalk for business to connect as friends and communicate with users, supporting functions such as notification talk and consultation talk.
Kakao has displayed a business channel badge at the top right corner of official channels. By additionally applying the dedicated chatroom background for public institution channels, Kakao expects to prevent impersonation damage of public institutions in advance and enhance the channel's credibility.
The dedicated chatroom background for public institution channels is applied only to public institution KakaoTalk channels, and is applied after a verification process when each institution applies. Since the beginning of this month, the dedicated background screen has been first applied to four major public institution channels: the Police Agency, the Prosecutors' Office, the National Health Insurance Service, and the Military Manpower Administration. It will be expanded to other public institutions thereafter.
A Kakao official stated, "We have provided a dedicated background screen for public institution channels to prevent impersonation messages of public institutions in advance and to provide a digital environment that the public can trust," adding, "We will continue to do our best to cooperate with various public institutions so that the public can use the services with peace of mind."
Meanwhile, Kakao plans to conduct a financial safety campaign together with the Korea Federation of Banks during the Lunar New Year holiday, when phishing risks increase. The campaign will include useful methods for users to safely use KakaoTalk, such as paying attention to risky profiles and checking business channel badges.
