Jongno-gu Hanok Owners Eligible for Free Materials
Through Sinyeong-dong Hanok Material Recycling Bank
Jongno-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) provides residents with free materials through the Hanok Construction (Demolition) Material Recycling Bank.
Jongno-gu will provide free door fittings to Jongno-gu residents who own hanok houses until the end of the year. Provided by the Hanok Building Materials Recycling Bank.
The Hanok Construction (Demolition) Material Recycling Bank is the nation’s first Hanok material warehouse, opened in December 2014 at 123-3 Sinyeong-dong. The recycling bank plays a role in systematically managing Hanok components that inevitably disappear during urban modernization and recycling them as traditional resources. It secures and manages valuable components from demolition sites and supplies them to users.
The distribution targets are Jongno-gu residents who own Hanoks. Materials can be supported when constructing, expanding, or repairing Hanoks. Roof tiles are provided free of charge to owners of general Hanoks and commercial Hanoks in Ikseon-dong, while wood and stone materials are provided free to owners of general Hanoks.
Material withdrawal is conducted after verifying the applicant’s residency within the district and confirming the Hanok building. The recycling bank operates every Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and prior inquiries such as stock confirmation before visiting are mandatory. For more details, please refer to the district office website or contact the recycling bank by phone for guidance.
