Jinju City Promotes 'Citizen-Centered Safety Management Plan' for Lunar New Year Holiday

Establishing Traffic Measures to Enhance Transportation Convenience for Residents and Returning Visitors

Jinju City in Gyeongnam is actively implementing citizen-centered safety management measures to ensure the safety of residents and returning visitors during the Lunar New Year holiday period, including the temporary holiday.

The city has established traffic measures to alleviate transportation inconveniences, citizen safety measures to ensure a disaster-free and safe Lunar New Year, and snow removal measures to prevent traffic inconveniences and safety accidents caused by winter freezing and heavy snowfall. A comprehensive safety situation room has been set up to conduct pre-inspections of facilities in each sector and provide training for related personnel, including emergency duty staff.

As a traffic measure to alleviate transportation inconveniences, Jinju City will operate a comprehensive traffic situation room from the 25th, when the holiday period of up to six days begins, including the temporary holiday on the 27th. Through this, various traffic situations and inconvenience reports will be received, and the city plans to promptly resolve traffic inconveniences through a cooperative system with related organizations.

To prevent expected traffic congestion and safety accidents due to the large number of returning visitors, safety driving education for public transportation workers and pre-inspections of vehicles (including buses, taxis, voucher taxis, and Sinnanda taxis, totaling 2,080 vehicles) have been conducted.

Above all, to resolve what is expected to be the most serious parking problem, public paid parking lots (58 locations, 1,740 spaces) will be operated free of charge on the Lunar New Year day (29th), and temporary parking will be allowed around two traditional markets.

Additionally, real-time vehicle traffic information will be provided to drivers through three electronic signboards in the city and a traffic information platform to facilitate smooth vehicle flow.

As a citizen safety measure for a disaster-free and safe holiday, safety inspections of traditional markets, cultural assembly facilities, elderly care facilities, and aging apartment complexes have been underway since the 9th and will continue until the 24th, in response to the recent frequent fire accidents.

This safety inspection has improved its effectiveness through joint inspections with related organizations such as the fire station and the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation. On the 20th, Deputy Mayor Cha Seok-ho conducted an on-site safety inspection of aging apartment complexes located in Sinan-dong.

Furthermore, to manage situations and respond promptly to various disasters, a 24-hour disaster countermeasure situation room is being operated, and a cooperative system with related organizations has been established for situation management and rapid response to various incidents, accidents, and weather information.

To alleviate traffic inconveniences and resident discomfort caused by road freezing and heavy snowfall, continuous on-site patrols will be strengthened.

Deputy Mayor Cha Seok-ho stated, “With the designation of the temporary holiday, the Lunar New Year holiday is longer than before. The city will thoroughly implement safety management plans in the areas of traffic, citizen safety, and roads so that not only residents but also returning visitors can enjoy a joyful and safe Lunar New Year.” He added, “We ask citizens to pay special attention to individual electrical equipment and safe driving to prevent various safety accidents.”
