Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Strengthens Safety Management of Children's Products Purchased Overseas

The National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced the 4th Basic Plan for Children's Product Safety Management on the 22nd, embodying the vision of "Creating a Safe Living Environment for Children through Proactive Children's Product Safety Management."

This basic plan focuses on proactively blocking the inflow of non-compliant products due to the increase in overseas direct purchases, and responding to safety management for new types of children's products such as converged products. It consists of four major strategies and nine key tasks.

The four major strategies are ▲Improvement of the children's product safety management system ▲Strengthening safety management of online transactions including overseas direct purchases ▲Establishment of a safety management system for converged and new technology children's products ▲Creation of a foundation for children's product safety management.

The main tasks for each strategy include ▲Establishing new caution and warning labels for major daily necessities frequently contacted by children, such as flooring materials ▲Disclosure of product information and deletion of products on overseas online platforms for safety management of overseas direct purchase children's products ▲Establishment of a Safety Standards Research Center for the rapid introduction of safety standards for converged and new technology children's products ▲Discovering and awarding excellent companies to enhance corporate safety management capabilities and abolishing the 5-year validity period for safety confirmation reports.

Kim Sang-mo, Director of the Product Safety Policy Bureau, stated, "Based on this plan, we will strive to create a safer environment for the use of children's products and improve the children's product safety management system to ease the certification burden on companies."
