She continued, "When choosing coffee beans, I was picky to suit my taste. I even bought the machines used in cafes," explaining the background. "But after entering my 50s, coffee started to affect my health. I thought I should cut back, so I limited myself to three cups a day." Then she said, "After that, I decided to quit entirely. Those who love coffee might wonder why I would quit. I felt my sleep quality was deteriorating and my stomach was uncomfortable. I also wanted to test my willpower because I felt I was too dependent on something. I started with one month, then extended to three months, and gradually to 100 days."

Baek Ji-yeon said, "When I started quitting coffee, I thought, 'If it were the last day of my life, I would drink coffee all day long,'" but added, "The benefit was that my sleep quality improved remarkably. I no longer woke up in the middle of the night." She also shared, "One of my long-standing sufferings was migraines, but during the 100 days of quitting coffee, the number of times I took headache medicine greatly decreased," and "I like desserts, but my cravings for flour and bread decreased by about 60 to 70 percent. The frequency of eating them dropped by about 80 percent compared to before."

Furthermore, she encouraged, "Since even I, who love coffee so much, tried this, I hope you will challenge yourself to quit coffee at least once as a New Year's resolution." She added, "I thoroughly searched for coffee substitutes, and diluting red ginseng concentrate in hot water was the most helpful. Besides that, drinking infusions of dried burdock, balloon flower root, goji berries, lotus root, and cassia seeds instead of coffee is also good."
