Netflix Surpasses Market Expectations in Q4 Last Year... Surpasses 300 Million Subscribers

Netflix recorded better-than-expected results in the fourth quarter of last year and surpassed 300 million paid subscribers.


According to Netflix's Q4 2024 earnings report released on the 21st (local time), revenue increased by 16% year-on-year to $10.247 billion (approximately 14.7249 trillion KRW). Operating profit rose 52% year-on-year to $2.273 billion (approximately 3.2652 trillion KRW), with an operating margin of 22.2%.


Notably, the number of paid subscribers at the end of Q4 reached 301.63 million, significantly exceeding the 290.9 million forecast by market research firm StreetAccount. This represents a 15.9% increase compared to the same period last year. In this quarter alone, 18.91 million new subscribers were added.


Key achievements in Q4 include "Ojingeo Geim Season 2" (Squid Game Season 2) expected to become one of the most popular series in the company's history, and the movie "Carrion" entering the top 10 all-time rankings.


For this year, Netflix projects revenue between $43.5 billion and $44.5 billion, with an operating margin forecast of 29%. Regarding the ad-supported plan, it accounted for more than 55% of new sign-ups in countries where ads are supported, and the number of ad-supported plan members increased by 30% compared to the previous quarter, indicating a successful establishment.
