Son Chang-wan, former president of Korea Airports Corporation and former superintendent of the Korean National Police University, was found dead on the 21st.

According to the police, Son was found dead at his home in Gyeonggi Province on the same day. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of his death.


Son, who held the rank of Commissioner General, the highest rank in the police force except for the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, served as president of Korea Airports Corporation from December 2018 to February 2022.


Son was also the president of the Airports Corporation in May 2020, when the upgrade project for the localizer at Muan International Airport began. The concrete embankment built as part of this project was identified as one of the causes that exacerbated the accident during the Jeju Air crash on the 29th of last month, which claimed 179 lives.
