On the morning of the 21st, Yangju Mayor Kang Soo-hyun met with Kim Geum-sook, Director of the Convergence Education Bureau of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, at the mayor’s office on the 2nd floor of City Hall to discuss the progress of the ‘Gyeonggi Bukche High School’ construction project.
‘Gyeonggi Bukche High School’ aims not only to nurture elite student athletes in winter sports through policy research but also to cultivate comprehensive talents in sports development, including the sports industry and sports health management.
The provincial office of education is considering building ‘Gyeonggi Bukche High School’ on school land located at 699 Gwangsa-dong and two other parcels (total area 46,544㎡) within the jurisdiction. In fact, before the meeting that day, officials from the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education visited the planned construction site in advance to inspect it, demonstrating an active approach to project promotion.
Furthermore, to ensure the successful establishment of ‘Gyeonggi Bukche High School,’ the provincial office of education plans to form a TF team in February and complete preliminary procedures such as central investment review by next year. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027, with completion and school opening targeted for March 2030.
They also added that they expect synergy effects from linking the project with Yangju City’s successful international skating rink public offering project.
Yangju Mayor Kang Soo-hyun said, “I sincerely thank Superintendent Lim Tae-hee for his generous interest and support in the major project of attracting an international skating rink, which will illuminate the blueprint for the future generation of Yangju City, as well as the establishment of ‘Gyeonggi Bukche High School.’ I will do my best to ensure that we successfully attract the international skating rink, which will serve as the foundation for nurturing future talents.”
