South Chungcheong Provincial Party
to Announce Candidate Late on the 24th
Ahead of the by-election for Asan Mayor in South Chungcheong Province scheduled for April 2, preliminary candidates from the People Power Party gathered to share their positions on key issues.
The South Chungcheong Provincial Party of the People Power Party held a joint policy debate on the 21st at Onyang Jeil Hotel, bringing together preliminary candidates Jeon Mankwon, Maeng Uiseok, and Lee Sangwook.
Regarding balanced development, the candidates agreed that "the unique characteristics of the region should be emphasized," and also presented common views on policies for women and children.
On the Anti-Discrimination Act, they expressed opposition, stating that "while it is ideal, there are concerns it could infringe on freedom of expression."
However, there were differing opinions on support measures for small business owners.
Candidate Lee advocated for expanding the issuance of local currency, while candidate Jeon countered that "establishing mid-to-long-term support policies is more important."
Candidate Maeng suggested revitalizing the local economy by increasing tourist spending.
Before the debate, Kim Youngseok, head of the South Chungcheong Provincial Party, announced, "Candidates will be selected through a combination of party member mobile electronic voting and a survey of ordinary citizens," adding, "The results are expected to be announced late on the 24th."
Meanwhile, Lee Gyosik, a preliminary candidate who was cut off on the 16th, filed for an injunction with the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Court to suspend the candidate selection process against Chairman Kim and the Nomination Management Committee.
He submitted the application on the 20th, and if the court accepts it, the People Power Party will not be able to finalize a candidate until the main lawsuit is concluded.
