Park Ji-won Raises Issues at Judiciary Committee Emergency Inquiry

Democratic Party lawmaker Park Ji-won claimed regarding Kim Seong-hoon, deputy chief of the Presidential Security Service, that “When First Lady Kim Geon-hee said ‘The sashimi caught with a harpoon in the sea is delicious,’ they filmed the fish being caught with a harpoon in a fish cage and showed it to her.” He then defined this as "an act of protecting only the mood of the President and the First Lady."
On the 20th, Park stated at the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee during an emergency inquiry related to the ‘Seoul Western District Court disturbance’ that “Kim Seong-hoon, as deputy chief of the Security Service, did all sorts of things like fireworks displays to make the First Lady happy.”
Park said, “When (Deputy Chief Kim) showed Kim Geon-hee ‘This is the fish,’ she reportedly said, ‘As expected, our Security Service is cool,’” and criticized, “(Kim Seong-hoon) did not protect the President of the Republic of Korea and the First Lady, but protected their mood.”
The vacation Park mentioned is presumed to be the summer vacation of President Yoon and his wife in August last year. At that time, the presidential couple spent 1 night and 2 days at the naval base in Jinhae, Gyeongnam, and 3 nights and 4 days on Jeodo Island in Geoje.
Kim Seong-hoon, currently accused of obstructing the arrest of President Yoon, was released on the 19th and resumed security duties. He had previously sparked controversy for holding the 60th anniversary event of the Security Service’s establishment on President Yoon Seok-yeol’s birthday last December, during which he dedicated a tribute song praising the president.
It is also reported that in September last year, on the First Lady’s birthday, a surprise event was held where a luxury protocol vehicle, a Mercedes-Maybach, loaded with congratulatory banners and balloons in the trunk, was sent to the Hannam-dong residence.
Meanwhile, earlier, Democratic Party lawmaker Chu Mi-ae revealed on the 14th at the first institutional report of the ‘Special Committee for the Investigation of the Truth Behind the Alleged Coup through the Declaration of Martial Law by the Yoon Seok-yeol Government’ held at the National Assembly that “There are suspicions that during President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife’s summer vacation last August, First Lady Kim Geon-hee called a naval ship and held a sea drinking party with acquaintances.”
Chu claimed, “They stayed on Jeodo Island in Geoje at the time, and even brought karaoke equipment to hold a drinking party on the naval ship and set off fireworks at the Geoga Bridge for their acquaintances to see.” She added, “The person who led this schedule is known to be Kim Seong-hoon, the current deputy chief of the Presidential Security Service who is resisting arrest.”
She continued, “An admiral who attended at the time said how much fun they had, saying ‘I didn’t know such good facilities existed’ and ‘We should come often from now on,’” and explained, “It is known that they also visited in August last year.” Chu sharply criticized, “If they used the port command boat called ‘Guibinjeong,’ how could military security assets be used for the entertainment of President Yoon and his wife?”
