"Lee Jae-myung's Democratic Party Losing Dialogue and Compromise, Can It Gain Public Trust?"... Im Jong-seok's Direct Criticism

Through SNS: "Regretting the Politics of Hostility and Conflict Becoming Routine"

Former Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok criticized the current political reality on the 21st, pointing out the internal democracy within the party and the politics that only lead to confrontation, directly criticizing the leadership of Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. He also lamented the heightened political confrontation between political camps.

On the same day, Im posted on social media (SNS), "The current Democratic Party, which has lost warmth, takes dialogue and compromise lightly, and holds its breath in internal democracy while focusing only on Leader Lee, can it truly gain the trust of the people?" He added, "It is difficult to continue doing things by riding on the mistakes of others. Actions without reflection inevitably come at a cost. That is what I fear."

Starting his post with "Now is the time to look back on ourselves," Im expressed his thoughts on a series of political situations including President Yoon Seok-youl's emergency martial law, impeachment, and arrest, expressing pride in the people while urging self-reflection for the Democratic Party, which is showing conflict and confrontation within factional logic.

He said, "A country where a bad president can be impeached, arrested, and detained according to legal procedures under the presidential system. Though it is a painful time, I am proud of the Republic of Korea," adding, "The great people, especially our youth, are endlessly proud and thankful."

However, regarding the Democratic Party, he said, "It is time to look back on ourselves," and lamented, "The politics of hostility and fighting that have become routine are regrettable." He criticized, "It is truly uncomfortable that people within us who neglect principles, seek their own positions first, and are careless in attitude and language receive applause from supporters and act arrogantly," and questioned, "What is the purpose of choosing harsh and severe expressions and speaking recklessly, and who are they trying to impress?"

Im’s critical voice toward the party is interpreted as being influenced by recent public opinion trends, where the People Power Party’s support rate is on the rise while the Democratic Party’s support rate is declining.
