Sudogwon and Chungnam to Implement First Winter Fine Dust Emergency Reduction Measures on the 21st Yonhap News

On the 21st, the first high-concentration fine dust emergency reduction measures of this winter will be implemented in the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungnam.

The Ministry of Environment announced on the 20th that high-concentration fine dust emergency reduction measures will be enforced from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the 21st in the Seoul metropolitan area and Chungnam.

A PM2.5 advisory was issued on the 20th for the affected areas, and with the daily average concentration expected to exceed 50㎍/㎥ on the 21st, a 'concern' level fine dust crisis alert has been issued.

Under the emergency reduction measures, a two-day vehicle operation system will be implemented for vehicles owned or used by administrative and public institutions. Except for eco-friendly vehicles and those carrying disabled persons, pregnant women, or infants, only odd-numbered vehicles will be allowed access to administrative and public institutions on the 21st.

Workplaces and construction sites that emit large amounts of fine dust will reduce operating hours and capacity, and implement measures to prevent dust dispersion.

Preemptive reduction measures will be implemented in Sejong and Chungbuk.

Preemptive reduction measures are carried out in the public sector a day before the emergency reduction measures, including the two-day vehicle operation system for administrative and public institution vehicles.

On the 21st, fine dust levels nationwide, except for Jeju, are expected to be at a 'bad' level.

In the morning, fine dust in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon Yeongseo, Chungcheong, Daegu, and Gyeongbuk is expected to be at a 'very bad' level.

Air quality is expected to remain poor on the 22nd as well.

In particular, fine dust is expected to be reintroduced from abroad into the country on the morning of the 22nd.
