Gyeonggi Province Doubles Budget from 4.2 Billion KRW to 8.2 Billion KRW
25 Projects to Be Implemented in Livestock Improvement, Management Enhancement, and Facility Upgrades

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that it has significantly increased the budget for the Gyeonggi Hanwoo Premium Project from 4.2 billion KRW last year to 8.2 billion KRW to enhance the competitiveness and stabilize the management of Hanwoo farms.

Implemented since 2001, the Gyeonggi Hanwoo Premium Project, a representative Hanwoo initiative of Gyeonggi Province, promotes a total of 25 detailed projects across three main areas: livestock improvement, management improvement, and facility improvement.

In the livestock improvement sector, the project supports eight initiatives including Hanwoo registration, linear evaluation, testing, embryo transfer, and genomic analysis to establish a foundation of superior livestock. Through this, Gyeonggi Province plans to focus on building and strengthening the foundation for producing high-quality Hanwoo.

In the management improvement sector, various supports are provided to increase the productivity and efficiency of Hanwoo farms. Notably, five projects are included such as providing immune boosters to prevent calf diarrhea, helpers to improve labor conditions on Hanwoo farms, and mosquito repellent lamps to prevent Lumpy Skin Disease.

In the facility improvement sector, 12 essential projects are promoted, including waterers, ventilators, and automatic collars, which are frequently used and consumed on farms.

Especially to reduce feed costs, which is the biggest issue for Hanwoo farms, 31 units of the ‘TMR (Total Mixed Ration) feed mixer,’ which has been highly preferred by farms but difficult to support due to budget limitations, will be provided. The province expects this to greatly help stabilize farm management, as research shows that using TMR feed mixers can reduce feed costs by more than 17%.

Additionally, to support Hanwoo farms damaged by unprecedented heavy snowfall last December, a ‘Livestock Shed Old Roof Replacement Project’ will also be implemented. This project aims not only to restore damages but also to prevent similar future damage.

Shin Jong-kwang, Director of the Livestock Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, “We have significantly increased the budget to overcome the difficulties faced by Hanwoo farms together,” and added, “We will do our best to further strengthen the competitiveness of Gyeonggi Hanwoo and turn this crisis into an opportunity.”
