Gimcheon-si Strengthens Inspections in Environmental Sector... Ensuring Environmental Safety

Integrated Guidance and Inspection of 420 Pollutant-Emitting Facilities
Gimcheon City strengthens environmental management for a cleaner living environment

Gimcheon City in Gyeongbuk is focusing its administrative efforts to create a clean living environment directly connected to the citizens' comfortable lives.

On the 18th, Gimcheon City announced that it will promote integrated guidance and inspection of 420 facilities emitting environmental pollutants to prevent environmental pollution and induce normal operation and proper management of pollutant emission facilities.

The purpose of this integrated guidance and inspection is to visit workplaces that have two or more pollutant emission facilities (air, wastewater, noise, etc.) and conduct guidance and inspection simultaneously to reduce the burden on businesses and improve inspection efficiency.

The city plans to classify workplaces into excellent, general, and priority management workplaces. General and priority management workplaces will be inspected at least once a year, and strict measures will be taken if violations occur, while excellent workplaces will be exempted from inspections to strengthen their autonomous management authority.

Additionally, for small businesses with weak environmental management, the city plans to promote autonomous management capabilities and improvement of pollution prevention facilities through joint public-private technical support and environmental technician education to proactively prevent environmental pollution.

Meanwhile, last year, Gimcheon City inspected 164 pollutant-emitting workplaces, detected 58 violations, and took administrative actions and prosecutions, resulting in receiving an excellence award in the Gyeongsangbuk-do environmental management performance evaluation.

Im Chang-hyun, head of the Environmental Sanitation Division of Gimcheon City, said, “Our city is utilizing air pollutant monitoring vehicles for workplace inspections, and this year we plan to purchase drones to promote more thorough environmental pollution prevention activities.” He added, “We will do our best to ensure that citizens can live with peace of mind through systematic workplace management.”
