Lee Wanseop, Mayor of Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, announced on the 17th, "We will create healing hubs for citizens by utilizing the beautiful natural scenery of Unsan-myeon, including the (tentatively named) Gayasan Forest Welfare Complex and the Seosan Hanwoo Ranch Well-being Trail."
On this day, Mayor Lee expressed his strong commitment to developing the entire Unsan-myeon area as a forest welfare hub during a meeting with over 200 local residents at the Unsan-myeon Community Center.
During the discussion, residents proposed to Mayor Lee several pressing local issues, including opening the interior area of the Seosan Hanwoo Ranch Well-being Trail, comprehensive maintenance of small streams, and dredging the stream near Gosancheon to prevent flood damage.
Mayor Lee deeply empathized with the suggestions made by residents and communicated with them in detail, expressing a proactive willingness to address each issue.
During the meeting, residents showed heightened interest in the (tentatively named) Gayasan Forest Welfare Complex, which, along with the Seosan Hanwoo Ranch Well-being Trail, will provide forest welfare as a healing space in nature for citizens.
The (tentatively named) Gayasan Forest Welfare Complex project aims to create spaces such as the Gayasan Natural Recreation Forest, which broke ground last October, an arboretum, and a healing forest, to offer forest welfare to citizens and visitors.
Once completed, it is expected to provide forest spaces tailored to different life stages in a single location, including a prenatal forest, a children's forest, a youth forest, a recreational forest, a healing forest, and a memorial forest.
The Gayasan Natural Recreation Forest will be equipped with an integrated management center, a forest recreation hall, forest cabins, a forest cafe, and conference rooms by 2026.
Additionally, a forest campground, a children's forest experience center, a forest leisure sports complex, and a forest education center will be established sequentially.
The arboretum, scheduled for completion in 2027, will feature a tree management center, nursery, and greenhouse. The healing forest, which will include a healing center and healing forest trails, is also slated for completion in 2027, with detailed design work underway this year.
The Well-being Trail at the Seosan Hanwoo Ranch, known as the "Alps of Seosan," was opened in December last year through the tireless efforts of Seosan City and its residents, featuring a 2.1 km decked trail and viewing areas.
In response to residents' requests to open the interior space of the Well-being Trail, Mayor Lee stated, "There are many restrictions on opening the area due to quarantine issues," adding, "We will continue to actively consult with relevant agencies while seeking alternatives."
Meanwhile, Unsan-myeon residents also requested detailed explanations regarding the construction of Seosan Airport, the introduction of international cruise ships, and the construction of the Seosan-Yeongdeok Expressway. Mayor Lee provided thorough answers to address their questions.
Mayor Lee Wanseop said, "The New Year's conversation with citizens, held to mark the Year of Eulsa, concluded successfully with a passionate dialogue with Unsan-myeon residents," adding, "We will actively reflect the voices heard from citizens in municipal administration and use them as a driving force for the growth and development of our city."
