"They Promised a Public Opinion Poll, But Cut Me Off With Only a Document Interview...
Considering Appeal and Legal Action"
Lee Gyosik, the preliminary candidate for Asan mayor from the People Power Party, is holding an emergency press conference at the Asan City Hall briefing room on the 17th.
On March 17, Lee Kyosik, a preliminary candidate from the People Power Party who declared his candidacy for the Asan mayoral by-election in Chungnam scheduled for April 2, stated, "The decision of the Chungnam Provincial Party Nomination Management Committee must be nullified."
He held an emergency press conference in the city hall briefing room that day, strongly protesting the committee's decision to cut him off and making the above statement.
Lee Kyosik argued, "The committee's cutoff criteria kept changing," and added, "They said they would conduct a public opinion poll, but instead, I was cut off based only on a document interview."
He continued, "The only notice I received from the party was about the candidate interview date," and demanded, "I urge the committee to clarify the procedures and to completely review the list of those who were cut off."
He went on to say, "I visited the central party this morning to file an appeal, but they were absent. I plan to go again tomorrow," emphasizing, "The committee's decision must be invalidated. If this is not accepted, I am also considering legal action such as filing a complaint."
Regarding the possibility of running as an independent, he drew a line, saying, "I am not considering it."
Meanwhile, the People Power Party's Chungnam Provincial Party Nomination Management Committee, at its second meeting on the 16th, selected Lee Sangwook, former Deputy Mayor of Seosan, Jeon Mankwon, former Deputy Mayor of Cheonan, and Maeng Uiseok, Vice Chairman of the Asan City Council, as candidates for the primary.
The candidates will be selected based on a combination of 50% public opinion and 50% party member electoral college opinions.
