Oh Sehoon: "Supporting Daily Lives of Seniors and the Socially Vulnerable"
Expansion of Smart Senior Centers and Senior Center Lunch Services Planned
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon announced on the 17th that 270 billion KRW has been invested to create about 95,000 jobs for senior citizens. The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to establish 65 additional smart senior centers this year for the elderly.
Mayor Oh attended the 'New Year's Meeting of the Seoul Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association' held at the multipurpose hall of Seoul City Hall that morning and stated, "This year, seniors over the age of 65 have exceeded 20% of Seoul's population," adding, "We have increased the budget for the Elderly Companion Program by more than 1 trillion KRW and invested 272.7 billion KRW to create about 95,000 jobs for senior citizens."

He also promised additional support for the elderly. Mayor Oh said, "To ensure that seniors can enjoy leisure activities anywhere, we will increase the number of smart senior centers from the current 99 to 164 this year, and we will spare no effort to support the expansion of five-day-a-week lunch services at senior centers."
The Seoul Federation of the Korean Senior Citizens Association works to enhance the rights, welfare, and social participation of the elderly in Seoul. It supports 25 district branches, 26 senior universities, and 3,516 senior leisure and welfare facilities including senior centers.
Mayor Oh has consistently emphasized expanding welfare for the elderly in response to the super-aged society. At the inauguration ceremony of the 19th president of the Korean Senior Citizens Association Central Committee held in October last year, he stated, "As we approach a super-aged society, elderly welfare policies are a crucial task that will determine the nation's future," and added, "Seoul City will provide generous support so that seniors can lead healthy and happy lives."
