Walking the Holy Site of 100 Years of Honam Christianity, Maesandeung
Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced on the 17th that it has published three books capturing the modern cultural heritage and history of Maesandeung, the holy site of 100 years of Honam Christianity.
The newly published books are a guidebook for the Maesandeung Pilgrimage Trail, an exhibition catalog of the Suncheon Christian History Museum, and a facsimile edition of missionary Florence's wildflower botanical book.

The guidebook, titled "Walking the Holy Site of 100 Years of Honam Christianity, Maesandeung," is a comprehensive guide that provides information on modern medicine, education, and Christian cultural heritage, following the old Maesandeung trail once walked by Southern Presbyterian missionaries.
The museum catalog, titled "A Grain of Wheat Falls in Suncheon - Suncheon Christian History Museum," contains valuable information on artifacts used by Southern Presbyterian missionaries during their evangelism, educational, and medical missions, as well as the history of Southern Presbyterian missionary work in Honam.
The botanical book, titled "Flowers and Folk-lore from Far Korea," is a facsimile reissue by the museum of a book compiled by missionary Florence in 1931, collecting Korea's wildflowers and legends.
Meanwhile, Maesandeung was the center of modern medicine and education, where Western culture was first introduced along with the Christian gospel, leading to the establishment of the first general hospital, Anryeoksan Hospital, and Maesan Boys' and Girls' Schools.
Currently, five national heritage sites related to Christian missions are being operated, including the George Watts Memorial Hall, Maesan School Maesan Hall, the Preston Missionary House, the Coit Missionary House, and the Suncheon Mission Foreign Children's School, along with the Suncheon Christian History Museum.
Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu said, "These newly published books contain the precious stories left in Maesandeung's modern cultural heritage by blue-eyed missionaries who settled in Suncheon solely out of the love of Christ and devoted their lives to saving the souls of Jeolla people."
