Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong attended the 'Meeting between City and Provincial Governors' Executive Committee and Acting President Choi Sangmok' held at the Seoul Government Complex on the 17th. At the meeting, he requested the prompt selection of the Gwangju Future Mobility National Industrial Complex as a National Strategic Project and exemption from the preliminary feasibility study for the second phase of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) project (AX Demonstration Valley). He also called for the swift allocation of an emergency supplementary budget to revive the frozen local economy.


Serving as the auditor for the council, Mayor Kang emphasized at the meeting that “local industries must not be halted, and especially regarding future industries, swift decisions are essential.” He highlighted the second phase of the AI project and the selection of the National Industrial Complex as National Strategic Projects as key issues for future industries.


He further stated, “Four cities and provinces nationwide, including the Gwangju Future Mobility National Industrial Complex, have applied to the government for selection as National Strategic Projects. The government should expedite the process and swiftly resolve the issue of lifting the Green Belt (GB) restrictions for industrial complex development.”


He continued, “Gwangju is wrapping up the first phase of the AI project, having achieved results such as establishing core AI infrastructure including the National Data Center. The Cabinet must quickly approve the exemption from the preliminary feasibility study for the second phase of the AI project so that it can proceed without interruption.”


Mayor Kang also proposed the allocation of an emergency supplementary budget to boost consumption and revive the local economy, including expanding national funding support for the Win-Win Card program.


Meanwhile, the meeting was attended by Acting President Choi Sangmok, Acting Minister of the Interior and Safety Ko Kidong, and Minister for Government Policy Coordination Bang Giseon from the government side. From the City and Provincial Governors' Association, newly appointed Chairman Yoo Jeongbok, Mayor of Incheon; Vice Chairman Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam; Choi Minho, Mayor of Sejong; and Auditor Kang Gijeong, Mayor of Gwangju, were present.
