Namhansanseong Cultural Festival, Royal Celadon Festival, and Toechon Tomato Festival
Final Rights Holder: Council Secretariat
The 'Gwangju City Festival Development Research Association' in Gyeonggi Province has attracted attention by becoming the first local council in the country to independently develop and register the copyright for a core festival story on the 9th.
As part of efforts to revitalize Gwangju City's festivals, the 'Final Research Report on Discovering Core Stories of Local Festivals,' registered with the Korea Copyright Commission, mainly consists of original story content developed by the Festival Development Research Association to be applied to Gwangju City's three representative festivals: Namhansanseong Cultural Festival, Royal Celadon Festival, and Toechon Tomato Festival. The final rights holder is the Council Secretariat.
According to the copyright registration details, the Namhansanseong Cultural Festival proposes reflecting the motif of the "fortress that was never captured" in its festival programs, highlighting the construction of the fortress and the historical external conflicts, as well as the situations and heroic deeds of figures during the Byeongjahoran (Second Manchu invasion of Korea).
Additionally, for the Royal Celadon Festival and the Toechon Tomato Festival, new characters and stories titled 'Dalhaejeon (達解傳)' and 'To-Bee’s Adventure' have been introduced, emphasizing that families visiting Gwangju’s representative festivals can understand and fully enjoy the unique values and characteristics of Gwangju City.
Representative Lee Joo-hoon said, “Local festivals are essentially local brands,” adding, “The stories developed through the Festival Development Research Association are achievements made with fellow council members and the festival management department out of love for Gwangju. I hope the copyrights will always be open to those who wish to utilize them for regional development.”
