KOSPI Recovers to 2520 Level on Joint Net Buying by Foreigners and Institutions

The KOSPI recovered to the 2520 level as foreigners and institutions simultaneously engaged in net buying, driving the index higher.

On the 16th, the KOSPI closed at 2527.4, up 30.68 points (1.23%) from the previous trading day.


By investor type, foreigners and institutions net bought 505.6 billion KRW and 17.9 billion KRW respectively. Meanwhile, individuals net sold 574.5 billion KRW.


By sector, chemicals and electrical & electronics rose more than 2%. Pharmaceuticals and construction also increased by more than 1%. Conversely, electricity & gas, food & beverage, and transportation equipment sectors saw slight declines.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 54,300 KRW, up 600 KRW (1.12%) from the previous trading day. SK Hynix rose 5.95%, and Samsung Biologics jumped 2.16%. On the other hand, Hyundai Motor, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Hyundai Mobis experienced slight declines.


On the day, 600 stocks rose in the KOSPI market without any hitting the upper price limit, while 281 stocks, including Haitron which hit the lower price limit, declined. 63 stocks remained unchanged.


The KOSDAQ closed at 724.24, up 12.63 points (1.77%) from the previous trading day.


By investor type, foreigners and institutions net bought 227.3 billion KRW and 101.1 billion KRW respectively. Individuals net sold 322.3 billion KRW.


By sector, pharmaceuticals rose 3.48%, while bio, medical precision instruments, electrical & electronics, and other manufacturing sectors increased by more than 1%. Conversely, publishing and media software declined 1.96%.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Alteogen closed at 312,000 KRW, up 8,500 KRW (2.80%) from the previous trading day. HLB rose 5.76%, and Samchundang Pharmaceutical increased 9.31%. Meanwhile, Hugel declined 1.15%.


In the KOSDAQ, including six stocks such as Poonggang and GenCurix that hit the upper price limit, 1,123 stocks rose, while 484 stocks declined without any hitting the lower price limit. 96 stocks remained unchanged.
