The side of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who was arrested on charges of leading an insurrection, decided not to comply with the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (PCC) re-investigation scheduled for the afternoon of the 16th.
Yoon Gap-geun, a lawyer for President Yoon, stated on the day, "President Yoon's health is not good, and since he sufficiently expressed his position the day before, there is no need for further investigation."
The PCC had planned to re-investigate President Yoon in the morning but accepted his request to postpone the investigation due to health reasons, rescheduling it for around 2 p.m.
President Yoon, who was arrested at 10:33 a.m. the previous day, was immediately transferred to the PCC and was investigated for about 10 hours and 40 minutes from 11 a.m. to 9:40 p.m. Afterwards, he was detained overnight at Seoul Detention Center.
President Yoon's side stated that during the first investigation by the PCC, they expressed the position that the declaration of martial law was legitimate and that the charge of insurrection did not apply. They also filed a detention review petition at the Seoul Central District Court, requesting a determination on the legality of the arrest.
