Special Patrols at 13 Crowded Areas, Including Majang Livestock Market, Hanyang University Shopping Street, Traditional Markets, and Yeonmujang-gil, by January 17
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that it has launched intensive safety inspections focusing on areas closely related to residents' daily lives, such as construction sites, road facilities, and traditional markets, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
First, from January 6 to January 24, safety inspections will be conducted at 94 construction sites. Among these, 22 sites, including large and medium-sized construction sites, will undergo joint inspections with external experts such as architectural construction engineers and architectural safety engineers.
The inspections will focus on fire prevention measures at construction sites, the appropriateness of quality control such as concrete pouring and curing, establishment and implementation of snow removal measures, prevention of suffocation accidents in enclosed spaces during winter, securing rest areas for workers, and provision of thermal protective gear, aiming to raise awareness at construction sites and prevent safety accidents in advance.
Issues identified during the inspections will be corrected immediately on-site as a principle, and if serious defects or risk factors are found, emergency measures such as halting construction will be taken and managed until the risks are resolved.
From January 13 to January 22, safety inspections will be conducted on road facilities and road slopes.
Seventeen road facilities including 3 road bridges, 5 pedestrian overpasses, 4 underpasses, and 5 underground walkways, as well as 44 road slopes such as retaining walls, will be inspected. This includes all 40 legally mandated facilities and 21 non-legally mandated facilities.
Twenty-six civil engineering staff members from Seongdong-gu Office will form six teams to conduct visual inspections, focusing on ▲damage status of road structures such as road bridges and pedestrian overpasses, ▲ground subsidence, leakage, cracks, and deformation of road facilities, ▲safety status of slope facilities such as rockfall joints, and ▲drainage management of safety inspection target facilities.
Simple and minor issues identified through safety inspections will be immediately addressed by the district road maintenance team. If there is a risk of safety accidents, emergency measures will be taken to remove hazards followed by urgent repairs. If necessary, emergency safety inspections or detailed safety diagnoses will be conducted.
In addition, the district guarantees residents' safe living areas by conducting an average of 10 safety inspections annually according to the road facility maintenance plan established at the beginning of each year.
Furthermore, from January 6 to January 17, special patrols will be conducted at a total of 13 locations including Majang Livestock Market, Hanyang University Shopping Street, local traditional markets, alley-type shopping streets, and crowded areas such as Yeonmujang-gil.
Safety hazard factors in seven areas will be inspected: ▲fire prevention facilities, ▲damage to roads and sidewalks and obstacles to pedestrians, ▲damage to traffic facilities, ▲operation and damage of security lights, ▲illegal dumping and roadside storage, and ▲illegal advertisements, aiming to resolve residents' inconveniences.
Safety hazards found during on-site inspections will be immediately reported to the relevant departments through the Smart Inconvenience Reporting App, and thorough follow-up management will be conducted until the issues are resolved.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “We are conducting more thorough safety inspections of facilities so that residents can have a safe Lunar New Year holiday,” and added, “We will continue to prioritize the safety of residents and do our best to prevent and manage safety accidents in daily life.”
