In his greeting, Mayor Lee Dong-hwan mentioned the city rebranding he announced at the New Year's press conference on the 13th and once again expressed his aspirations for the new year.
The core strategy is job creation, stating, “By 2030, we aim to achieve a total employment effect of 300,000 people through a large-scale city rebranding to become a 'dynamic city, a chosen city,' a 'fun city' full of things to do and see, ultimately becoming a 'game changer' presenting a new urban model for South Korea.”
Sharing the news of receiving 77 institutional awards from Goyang Special City last year, he reflected, “I believe this is the result of our city’s capabilities being recognized in all areas including administrative innovation, urban maintenance, jobs, economy, welfare, safety and environment, education and culture, and transportation.”
He stated, “This year, we will utilize generative artificial intelligence (AI), including ChatGPT, in various policies to improve citizen services and enhance work efficiency,” and urged attendees to “work hard to create a better Goyang Special City in 2025.”
In addition, he introduced citizens’ support for the selection of the Gongneungcheon public contest project, the opening of the metropolitan area express railroad GTX-A line, the resumption of the suburban line, and the attraction of the free economic zone.
Meanwhile, at the special invited lecture welcoming the 2025 New Year held at the Cultural Center on the 14th, Professor Kim Sang-wook of the Department of Physics at Kyung Hee University, famous as the ‘Kind Physicist,’ gave a lecture.
On that day, Professor Kim Sang-wook delivered an enthusiastic lecture on the theme ‘What Physics Has Told Us About the Universe and Humans,’ receiving great responses from the attendees.
Professor Kim introduced that the reason humans have attributed meaning to numbers such as 2, 5, 7, 10, 12, 30, 60, and 360 originates from the sky (天) that humans have always observed.
For example, the number 7 gained significance from the sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn, which are visible to the naked eye from Earth, and this influenced the yin-yang five elements and the naming of weekdays in the East, he explained.
He emphasized that these numbers essentially have no special meaning from the perspective of physics, as humans merely assigned meaning to them.
From the perspective of the infinite universe, Earth is just a small rock orbiting the sun, and humans are miraculous beings (life) existing for less than a hundred years; thus, it is inappropriate to hate and fight among ourselves, he stressed.
He also emphasized that science cannot perfectly predict the future, explaining that scientists at the time could not foresee the climate and environmental crises caused by inventions such as plastic and internal combustion engines using oil and coal.
At the end of the lecture, he concluded by stressing the importance of teaching children what will remain unchanged in an era of change, emphasizing the necessity of history, philosophy, logic, art, reading, listening, writing, speaking, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.
