Celebrating its 28th year, the "National Ottchil Woodcraft Competition" is an annual contest held to discover outstanding woodcraft works and artists, and to boost the morale of craftspeople through awards.

The competition is hosted by Namwon City, organized by the Namwon Woodcraft Association, and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the National Heritage Administration, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, and the Namwon City Council.

Every year, the competition attracts significant attention from craftspeople nationwide, and has become a gateway for emerging artists, especially as the number of daily-use items designed with ottchil continues to grow.

A total of 37 awards will be given, with certificates and a total prize pool of 130 million KRW (including a grand prize of 30 million KRW). The award ceremony is scheduled to take place during the 95th Chunhyang Festival at the Namwon Journey of Master Singer Ahn Sookseon.

The winners will be announced on the city website on April 16, and the award-winning works will be exhibited in Namwon (Journey of Master Singer Ahn Sookseon, May 2-6), Jeonju Hanok Village (Craft Exhibition Hall, May 27-June 1), and at COEX in Seoul (Craft Trend Fair, in December), among other venues.

A city official stated, "Through the Ottchil Woodcraft Competition, we hope to provide craftspeople working in related fields with opportunities to showcase their abilities and works nationwide, and to create a meaningful momentum for the advancement of the ottchil woodcraft industry."
