New Cultural Program "Confident and Exciting Happy School" Launched
Ulju-gun's representative public library, Ulju Seonbawi Library, is being reborn as a new cultural library for "Active Seniors."
On the 15th, Ulju Seonbawi Library announced that it will newly operate a differentiated cultural program for active seniors called "Confident and Exciting Happy School."
This program was prepared to meet the demand for new cultural services for various senior age groups as South Korea enters a super-aged society.
Active seniors are a generation different from previous elderly generations, possessing various abilities such as economic power, education, and healthy physical condition. Although they have a high desire for social and cultural leisure activities after retirement, they feel burdened using senior welfare centers or community centers, resulting in a lack of opportunities and spaces for activities.
Seonbawi Library will operate various reading culture programs, professional certification courses, and special lectures for active seniors through this program.
From next month until June, five programs will be conducted for a total of 90 participants: △ Active Senior Reading Club △ Wisdom of Relationships Learned from Laozi △ Making a Life Note Autobiography △ Writing Emotional Video Letters with a Smartphone △ Using a Smart Smartphone as Your Personal Assistant.
Applications for participation will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis starting from the 21st via the Ulju Integrated Library website or at the 3rd-floor office of Seonbawi Library.
From mid-March, a professional certification acquisition course for the second act of life for active seniors will be operated for a total of 40 participants (Picture Book Psychological Counselor Certification, Picture Book Curator Training Course). Graduates who obtain professional certification will be supported to engage in activities at Seonbawi Library and local cultural and welfare facilities.
In addition, in cooperation with health centers and local medical institutions, muscle loss prevention exercise classes and health lectures will be prepared. The library plans to additionally purchase and stock 70 large-print books for seniors (currently 1,090 volumes available) and 100 types of audiobooks (currently 2,977 types available).
An official from Ulju Seonbawi Library said, "We hope that the healthy and active middle-aged generation will enjoy reading culture activities at Ulju Seonbawi Library, gain new joy and value in life by managing their health and acquiring book-related professional qualifications," and added, "We will do our best to create a library that all generations can use."
