Samcheok-si Confirms Symbol for the '60th Gangwon Provincial Sports Festival' to be Held This May

Event Slogan Announced:
"Let's Run Together, Gangwon Residents, in the Hydrogen City Samcheok"

Samcheok City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Park Sang-su) announced on the 15th the finalized symbols including the emblem, mascot, and slogan for the 60th Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Residents Sports Festival to be held in Samcheok from May 30 to June 3.

Samcheok City has been developing the symbols by modifying and supplementing the award-winning works from a nationwide contest held last year through professional design services to suit the characteristics of Samcheok City. Afterwards, the symbols were finalized as the official symbols of the 60th Gangwon Residents Sports Festival after receiving approval from the Gangwon Sports Council.

The event emblem symbolically represents the 60th Gangwon Residents Sports Festival held in the clean hydrogen city of Samcheok by combining the blazing flame of the torch, the number “60,” and hydrogen image elements.

The mascots are Samcheok City’s character Samcheokdongja and Gangwon Province’s character Gangwon-i and Teukbyeol-i running side by side, expressing a grand festival of unity and cohesion among the residents, with the torch flame symbolizing the 60th event.

The event slogan was set as “Let’s Run Together, Gangwon Residents, in the Hydrogen City Samcheok,” and the motto as “Gangwon Residents United in the Hydrogen City Samcheok.” It conveys the meaning of holding a festival where all residents unite and harmonize in the clean hydrogen city of Samcheok.

□ A Samcheok City official stated, “We will do our best to prepare for the event by actively utilizing the finalized symbols for event promotion,” and added, “We ask for the participation and interest of many Gangwon residents, including Samcheok citizens, for the successful hosting of the 60th Gangwon Residents Sports Festival.”
