Silla University Global Business Support Center Conducts Overseas Field Activities for International Development Cooperation in Indonesia

Shilla University (President Heo Nam-sik) Global Business Support Center announced on the 15th that it has successfully completed its overseas field activities for international development cooperation in Indonesia.

From the 6th to the 11th, the Shilla University Global Business Support Center visited Jakarta, Indonesia, with a team of 10 participants for six days, conducting various experiential field activities including △visiting the KOICA Indonesia office △exploring villages submerged due to environmental issues in Indonesia △investigating local community contributions and CSR activities of Korean-invested companies △volunteering to prepare lunch boxes with the international relief and development NGO ‘Hope Friends Korea Food for the Hungry’ △volunteering at an orphanage with the ‘Human Initiative’ organization △exchanging with the 4th Industrial Revolution human resource development center jointly established by KOICA, Shilla University, and UMN University.

This program was conducted to explore Indonesia, a key partner country in the Korean government’s international development cooperation, to gain empirical understanding of pressing issues faced by developing countries such as ‘poverty,’ ‘environment,’ ‘education,’ and ‘jobs,’ which are core elements of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to understand the sites contributing to international cooperation through support for economic and social development in developing countries.

For this activity, Shilla University’s Global Business Support Center formed a team consisting of students who have a strong interest in international development cooperation and rich volunteer experience, as well as KOICA Young Professionals (YP).

Since 2017, Shilla University has been conducting projects to enhance understanding of international development cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and last year, it held various lectures to improve understanding of international development cooperation, including ‘International Development Cooperation and Global Citizenship Education.’

Kim Do-heon, a student at Shilla University who participated in the activities, said, “This overseas field activity provided a valuable experience,” and added, “I will strive to grow as a talent with sharing and collaboration capabilities as a global citizen.”

Jung Hae-yong, Director of the Global Business Support Center at Shilla University, said, “Not only have the students’ awareness of participation as global citizens increased through various practical activities, but they have also gained motivation to plan their careers as international development cooperation experts,” and added, “We will provide highly satisfactory programs for students and strive to expand exchange and cooperation between Shilla University and Indonesia.”

This year, Shilla University plans to continue various global cooperation activities, including projects to enhance understanding of international development cooperation involving students, an online global training program to strengthen teaching methodology skills for secondary school teachers in Mauritius, and a project to train specialized human resources in 4th Industrial Revolution technologies in Tangerang, Indonesia.
