Yoon Arrested... Park Chan-dae: "First Step to Restoring Democracy"

"Yoon turned the Republic of Korea into a lawless land"
"No intention whatsoever to delay the special investigation law on treason"

Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, described the execution of the arrest warrant against President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is accused of "treason," on the 15th as "the first step toward restoring constitutional order, democracy, and realizing the rule of law."

Park made this statement during a Democratic Party members' meeting held at the National Assembly that morning. He also said, "The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (HOCI) and the police joint investigation headquarters have arrested Yoon Seok-yeol on charges of being the ringleader of treason," adding, "Although it is quite late, it is fortunate to confirm that the public authority and justice of the Republic of Korea are still alive."

Park referred to President Yoon without honorifics, calling him simply "Yoon Seok-yeol," and strongly criticized him. He stated, "Yoon Seok-yeol is a serious criminal who violated the Constitution and laws by declaring martial law and obstructed public authority and law enforcement with force, turning the Republic of Korea into a lawless land." He continued, "Yoon Seok-yeol cannot avoid detention and dismissal," and added, "Likewise, the special investigation law on treason cannot be avoided."

The Democratic Party has set the deadline for passing the so-called "special investigation law on treason" as the next day, the 16th, pressuring the People Power Party. On the same day, Park said, "The Democratic Party has no intention of delaying the passage of the special investigation law," and "We will do our best to end the treason as soon as possible." He also urged, "We call on the People Power Party to stop obstructing at every turn and to actively cooperate."
