30 Newly Exceeded 5% Shareholding, 44 Fell Below 5%
The number of stocks in which the National Pension Service (NPS) invested more than 5% decreased by 14 over the past year. The stock in which the NPS increased its shareholding the most last year was HDC Hyundai Development Company, while the stock in which it reduced its shareholding the most was C&C International.
On the 15th, CEO Score, a corporate data research institute, investigated domestic listed companies in which the NPS invested more than 5%. The number of stocks with over 5% investment by the NPS decreased from 285 at the end of 2023 to 271 at the end of 2024, a drop of 14 in one year. The number of companies in which the NPS held more than 10% also decreased from 43 at the end of 2023 to 35 at the end of last year, a reduction of 8.
Last year, the NPS increased its shareholding in 121 stocks, while it reduced shareholding in 173 stocks. The number of stocks where the NPS was the largest shareholder also decreased from 7 at the end of 2023 to 5 at the end of last year, a drop of 2. This is analyzed to be due to the bearish stock market last year, which led to a decrease in the market capitalization of major domestic companies and a more cautious investment approach by the NPS.
The stock in which the NPS increased its shareholding the most last year was HDC Hyundai Development Company. The NPS's shareholding in HDC Hyundai Development Company rose from 5.64% at the end of 2023 to 12.31% at the end of 2024, an increase of 6.67 percentage points. The second was HD Hyundai Mipo, with the NPS's shareholding increasing from 7.00% to 12.24%, up 5.24 percentage points during the same period. The third was Samsung Securities, which increased by 5.02 percentage points (8.43% → 13.45%).
Following were ▲Hanwha Engine 4.98 percentage points (7.75% → 12.73%) ▲Daewoong Pharmaceutical 4.10 percentage points (7.04% → 11.14%) ▲Green Cross 3.48 percentage points (7.05% → 10.53%) ▲HD Hyundai Construction Equipment 3.35 percentage points (5.05% → 8.40%) ▲HL Mando 3.30 percentage points (8.52% → 11.82%) ▲PNH Tech 2.84 percentage points (5.37% → 8.21%) ▲NH Investment & Securities 2.81 percentage points (5.54% → 8.35%).
The stock in which the NPS reduced its shareholding the most was the cosmetics ODM company C&C International. The NPS's shareholding in C&C International decreased from 12.10% at the end of 2023 to 5.01% at the end of 2024, a drop of 7.09 percentage points. The shareholding in Isu Petasys, a specialized printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturer, also decreased from 12.83% to 7.43%, a reduction of 5.40 percentage points during the same period.
Following were ▲HD Hyundai Electric 5.20 percentage points (12.44% → 7.24%) ▲Hyosung TNC 4.85 percentage points (11.70% → 6.85%) ▲Samyang Foods 4.31 percentage points (12.72% → 8.41%) ▲Pharmarise 3.98 percentage points (9.22% → 5.24%) ▲LIG Nex1 3.86 percentage points (13.53% → 9.67%) ▲SBS 3.76 percentage points (13.26% → 9.50%) ▲GKL 3.45 percentage points (11.32% → 7.87%) ▲Soluem 3.41 percentage points (10.19% → 6.78%) in order of largest decrease in shareholding.
Last year, a total of 30 stocks were newly added to the list of stocks with over 5% shareholding by the NPS. Among them, 12 stocks including STX Engine, Samhwa Electric, and GS P&L entered through new disclosures last year. Additionally, 18 stocks such as Iljin Electric and KC Tech had less than 5% shareholding by the NPS at the end of 2023 but exceeded 5% last year.
The stocks whose NPS shareholding was over 5% at the end of 2023 but fell below 5% last year totaled 44, including Shinsegae International, TEMC, Hotel Shilla, Clio, and Ssangyong C&E.
By industry, the stocks with over 5% NPS shareholding last year were led by holding companies with 41 stocks, followed by ▲IT & Electronics (39 stocks) ▲Petrochemicals (26 stocks) ▲Shipbuilding, Machinery & Equipment (24 stocks) ▲Services (23 stocks). At the end of 2023, the order was ▲IT & Electronics (44 stocks) ▲Holding Companies (39 stocks) ▲Petrochemicals (28 stocks) ▲Services (25 stocks).
