Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) held a New Year's greeting event at Lotte Concert Hall on the 14th, marking a strong start to 2025.
About 1,500 residents attended the New Year's greeting event, showing high expectations for the new year’s Songpa-gu administration. Mayor Seo Gang-seok personally welcomed the residents and promised to continue the unwavering ‘servant leadership administration.’
Residents conveyed their hopes for Songpa-gu in the new year through videos. Parents, office workers, artists, and seniors from various walks of life requested, “We look forward to changes along Songpa-daero,” “We hope there will be many cultural events to enjoy with family in the new year,” and “As an Olympic city, we hope efforts to promote residents’ health will continue.”
Mayor Seo Gang-seok shared the 2025 administrative vision and key projects, pledging to advance Songpa-gu.
Mayor Seo stated, “History must always progress, so we cannot remain complacent,” and expressed his ambition, saying, “In 2025, we will focus on the ‘Songpa-daero Walkable Street Garden Project,’ lifting the land transaction permit zone, and cooperating to attract the ‘2036 Summer Olympics’ to achieve visible results.”
First, the district plans to widen the sidewalks along a 1.5 km section from Seokchon Lake to Garak Market Intersection and plant cherry blossom trees as street trees to connect the area into a single street garden.
Additionally, administrative efforts will be concentrated on lifting the land transaction permit zone (Toheoje). Mayor Seo said, “We will actively negotiate with Seoul City to ensure the abolition of the land transaction permit system in the Jamsil area, a representative regulation that excessively infringes on residents’ property rights, within this year.”
He added, “We will actively support Seoul’s bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics,” and stated, “We will demonstrate the citizens’ passion and support for the Olympics by forming a district-wide Olympic bidding organization at the Songpa-gu level as an Olympic host city.”
The attending residents responded with enthusiastic applause, especially regarding the Songpa-daero related projects and the plan to lift the land transaction permit zone.
In addition, the district will focus on key projects such as ▲prompt promotion of redevelopment and reconstruction under the perception of ‘supportive administration’ rather than regulatory administration ▲creation of waterfront sensory parks at Jangji Stream and Seongnae Stream ▲establishment of streets blooming with flowers in all four seasons ▲strengthening native English classes ▲expansion and maintenance of sports facilities including the Jamsil Retention Basin Park Golf Course.
Finally, Mayor Seo Gang-seok said, “In times of crisis, the role of autonomous district administration working for residents’ convenience and welfare improvement is crucial,” and added, “This year as well, we will overcome the challenges with ‘creative and innovative administration’ and continue the ‘servant leadership administration’ so that residents can live their daily lives without unnecessary worries.”
